Airplane has to make emergency landing after passenger discovers a live mouse in her in-flight food

A plane had to make an emergency landing after a live mouse jumped out of an in-flight meal.

The Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) flight from the Norwegian capital Oslo to Malaga in southern Spain was diverted to Copenhagen.

Scandinavian Airlines said the diversion was an established procedure for safety reasons. Airlines ban rodents on board to prevent them from biting through electrical wiring.

The passengers were later flown to Malaga on another aircraft.

One passenger, Jarle Borrestad, wrote on Facebook: “Believe it or not. A lady next to me here at SAS opened the food and a mouse jumped out. Now we have turned around and landed in CPH. [Copenhagen Airport] for flight changes.”

He also used laughing emojis and a photo of himself smiling while sitting next to two women. He did not say, however, whether the mouse was spotted again after it jumped out of the feeder.

Airline spokesman Oystein Schmidt said: “Something like this is extremely rare.

“We have procedures in place for such situations, including checking with our suppliers to ensure this does not happen again.”

On Sunday, the pilot of a US airline Delta Air Lines flight had to make an emergency landing after some passengers reported bleeding eardrums, headaches and nosebleeds due to a loss of pressure.

Panic broke out on the flight from Salt Lake City to Portland (Oregon). After the plane landed, the passengers were met by paramedics at the gate.

The airline apologized.
