Logan man arrested after allegedly kidnapping woman and raping her for four days | News – KVNU

LOGAN — A 46-year-old Logan man was arrested after a woman flagged down a police officer in Logan Canyon and told him she had been kidnapped and raped, police said. Christopher Mark Derring was booked into the Cache County Jail Monday following an investigation.

According to an affidavit, a Cache County Sheriff's deputy was driving through the canyon on U.S. 89 on Sept. 11. Near the Stokes Nature Center, a Salt Lake City woman flagged them down and claimed Derring had kidnapped her from a hotel in Ogden.

The alleged victim described how she was visiting friends when Derring offered to give her a ride. However, instead of taking her back to Salt Lake City, he drove her to his apartment in Logan, where she was allegedly repeatedly raped and assaulted.

The woman told police how Derring beat her with several objects, including a flashlight, a pipe and a broken towel rack. She said the suspect took her to Idaho, where he allegedly planned to “drop her off in a remote area to die,” according to the probable cause affidavit.

Officers searched the area and found Derring asleep behind the wheel of his car with the engine running. He tested positive for methamphetamine, fentanyl and prescription drugs.

The alleged victim claimed she was held captive for four days. In addition to being repeatedly raped and abused, she also described how Derring smeared glue in her hair after attempting to cut her hair, claiming it was a “treatment,” according to court documents.

Officers found that the woman had bruising on her feet, legs, shoulders, back, eyes and jaw, as well as a large abrasion on her forehead.

Derring was reportedly interviewed by investigators and denied the allegations before exercising his right to an attorney.

Police obtained a search warrant for Derring's apartment. In a bedroom, they found several small blood stains on a pillow. In the bathroom, they found a broken towel rack and a white towel with blood on it.

According to jail records, Derring was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes, including forcible sodomy, kidnapping and aggravated assault. He is being held without bail pending arraignment at Logan's 1st Jail.st District Court.

Arrested and accused persons are presumed innocent unless their guilt has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
