Firefighters – NBC Connecticut

After a fire in a barn at Big E, dozens of horses are safe and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

According to officials, the fire in the C Barn was reported after the Big E closed on Friday.

Firefighters said they arrived on scene around 11:45 p.m. and found a fire in the barn.

All horses housed in Stable C were immediately evacuated and their condition is assured.

According to the fire department, 161 horses are safe and are currently recovering from minor injuries.



West Springfield Fire Department

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the West Springfield Fire Association Unit with assistance from the State Police under the Office of the Fire Commissioner.

“We are grateful for the quick response of our team and the authorities, as well as all exhibitors who are supporting each other during this transition period,” Big E said in a statement on Saturday.

Normal operations will resume Saturday at the Coliseum with the 4-H horse show.

The Big E runs until September 29th.
