Month-long trial set for Shawano County man on murder charges | WSAU News/Talk 550 AM · 99.9 FM

Michael Ingold

SHAWANO, WI (WSAU) — Another attempt at a jury trial has been scheduled for Michael Ingold.

After three previous attempts were struck from the calendar, a Shawano County judge has scheduled a month-long trial between Nov. 18 and Dec. 20. The 60-year-old is charged with first-degree murder for allegedly strangling a woman two years ago. Investigators say Ingold and the woman had previously clashed, and the charges include a domestic violence addendum.

Ingold is accused of strangling the woman during an argument. The autopsy found that she died from “manual strangulation,” but he denies the allegations.

Previous trial attempts took place in September 2023, January 2024 and March 2024. Court records show that both sides argued back and forth over the admissibility of evidence, including phone calls to the Shawano County Jail and testimony from certain witnesses. There was also an attempt to exclude testimony about guns and hand grenades.

His defense team also requested that the charges be dropped due to insufficient evidence, meaning that they cannot be re-filed. This request was rejected.

No further court dates are scheduled until November 18. The 23-day trial will be adjourned for four days due to Thanksgiving, which begins on November 28.
