Charles Leclerc is frustrated after Ferrari “paid the price” in qualifying in Singapore, while Carlos Sainz explains the “very strange” accident

“If we come out of the garage with the front tyres too cold, we come into the first corner and lock up, so I don’t know what’s going on.

“I don't have the answer yet, the team doesn't have the answer yet, but we have to look into it because we paid the price for it today.”

Asked if this was a concern for the race, with the drivers facing 62 gruelling laps on Sunday evening, Leclerc replied: “No, nothing to worry about, but we have to find out.”

Sainz, on the other hand, had to reflect on a violent accident that occurred shortly after he slowed down to allow competitors, including McLaren's Oscar Piastri, to overtake.

“A very strange race,” he said. “I clearly underestimated, or in this case overestimated, the grip that a very cold tyre would offer. I had to push hard in the last sector to let some cars pass.”
