Fourth tropical disturbance occurs in the Atlantic. Will this affect Florida?

A fourth tropical disturbance formed in the Atlantic early Saturday morning and is being monitored by the National Hurricane Center – the latest activity during the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season.

Here you will find the latest information on these systems and their development opportunities over the next seven days.

Central subtropical Atlantic (remains of Gordon)

The remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon continue to fizzle out in the Atlantic. Strong upper-level winds continue to keep showers and thunderstorms away from the center of a low-pressure system, the NHC said.

The NHC says there is a 10% chance that this disturbance will develop over the next seven days. It is expected to continue to move slowly northwestward across the Atlantic Ocean.

Central Subtropical Atlantic (Invest 96L)

A low pressure system in the central subtropical Atlantic is producing some showers and thunderstorms. However, conditions do not appear favorable for the disturbance to develop, the NHC said. There is a 10% chance the disturbance will develop in the next seven days.

Northwestern Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico

The National Hurricane Center has again increased the likelihood of a possible tropical disturbance in the Caribbean Sea, which will likely reach the Gulf of Mexico at some point.

In its warning Saturday morning, the NHC said an extensive low-pressure system is likely to form over the northwestern Caribbean and adjacent parts of Central America early to mid-next week.

As it enters the Gulf of Mexico, where record ocean temperatures and minimal wind shear are occurring, conditions are favorable for the possible development of a tropical depression late next week, the NHC said.

Regardless of whether a disruption occurs or not, the system is expected to bring heavy rainfall to parts of Central America over the next few days.

Currently, the probability that the disorder will develop within the next seven days is 60%.

Eastern and Central Tropical Atlantic

A tropical wave is expected to move westward from the coast of Africa on Sunday or Monday.

A gradual development of this disorder is possible over the next seven days and is currently at a probability of 30%.
