Ohio State vs. Marshall live stream, where to watch, TV channel, odds, spread, prediction, picks

The reunion of Ryan Day and Chip Kelly is off to a great start at Ohio State University. Day convinced his former college coach to leave his position leading the UCLA program to work as the Buckeyes' offensive coordinator, and so far that has resulted in the Buckeyes scoring 108 points in their first two games. And if that wasn't enough, the Buckeyes' defense has allowed just six points in the same time period.

So, yeah, this Ohio State team is looking pretty good. Of course, the competition the Buckeyes have faced so far hasn't been incredible, and that won't change this week with Marshall. The Thundering Herd enter the game with a 1-1 record. While the Herd impressed earlier in the season with a 45-3 win over Stony Brook, they struggled quite a bit in a 31-14 loss at Virginia Tech.

This is the third meeting between the two teams, the last being in 2010. The Buckeyes won that time 45-7, but their 2004 meeting was much closer, with Ohio State narrowly winning 27-24.

Ohio State vs. Marshall: What you need to know

Ohio State has won 41 consecutive games against unranked opponents: While beating bad teams doesn't impress pollsters or selection committees, a good team can hold its own against weaker competition. Do you maintain the same level of performance or do you play at your opponent's expense? Considering the Buckeyes have won 41 straight games against unranked opponents, it's clear that this team can't be accused of overlooking anyone. Ohio State last lost to an unranked team in the 2018 season, when they lost 49-20 to Purdue. Ryan Day took over for Urban Meyer the next season, and nothing has happened since.

Freshman WR Jeremiah Smith is the right one: The Ohio State freshman doesn't look like a freshman. There are NFL teams watching him who are unhappy with the league's rule that a player must be three years out of high school before entering the league, because Smith looks like he could help some NFL teams now. Smith caught 11 passes for 211 yards and 3 touchdowns in his first two games, becoming the first true freshman WR to catch over 200 yards in his first two games. He is already tied with Chris Olave and Marvin Harrison Jr. for fifth place for most touchdowns caught by a freshman.

Marshall won his last match against a seeded opponent: Listen, Ohio State has no problems with unranked teams and the Big Ten has no problems with the Sun Belt (38-4 overall), but don't overlook the Herd! The last time Marshall played a ranked team on the road, no one expected them to win that game either. A few hours later, Marshall pulled off an upset 26-21 victory over No. 8 Notre Dame in the 2022 season.

Ohio State vs. Marshall Prediction, Tips

Could Marshall pull off an upset? Of course, anything is possible, but chances are it will be another one-sided affair. The Buckeyes have yet to allow a touchdown this season, and even taking their starters out early hasn't stopped them from scoring points in their first two games. The Buckeyes have allowed themselves three preseason games with this non-conference schedule and will likely suffer another loss. Selection: Ohio State -40.5
