Tyson Fury downplays the importance of the Joshua vs. Dubois title fight: “I don't give a damn who wins” | Video

A record-breaking 96,000 fans will throng Wembley Arena today (Saturday, September 21, 2024) to watch Anthony Joshua fight for the IBF heavyweight title against Daniel Dubois. LIVE To DAZN Pay Per View (PPV) from London, England, but a British boxing star has no interest in the title fight in the main event.

Joshua, who remains one of boxing's biggest stars despite not having a title, has long been compared to fellow English heavyweight Tyson Fury. A clash between the two has been a long time coming, but for one reason or another the two fighters have never met in the ring. That could change in the future, but for now all they can do is watch each other compete.

Unfortunately, “Gypsy King” is not very interested in watching the title fight with Dubois this weekend in London. Fury is already booked for his expected rematch against heavyweight superstar Oleksandr Usyk in December and there is not much at stake when it comes to Joshua and Dubois, who are considered “Divvies”.

“I don't know. Honestly, I don't care,” Fury said IFL TV when asked who will win Saturday's heavyweight fight. “I have to focus on my fight against Oleksandr Usyk, that's what I'm thinking about. I'm not thinking about who wins in those two divisions… I don't give a damn who wins.”

Fury may not care who wins tonight's clash in London, but the entire boxing universe does. Because Joshua could be setting himself up for another heavyweight superfight if he beats Dubois and wins another world title. He could even be looking at a showdown with Fury in 2025, whether or not “Gypsy King” wins his title back from Usyk.

“He got a gifted decision over the Gypsy King, end of… It is what it is, it's over now,” Fury added, speaking about his upcoming rematch with Usyk. “They took my virginity unfairly. It would probably feel weird if I'd done it for £50, but considering I came in for a lot of money, it doesn't matter. It is what it is, you can't take a decision back, but I've got a chance to do it again in December and that's what we're going to do. I'm going to knock him out.”
