Richardson Police Release Video of Car Chase with Murder Suspect

The dashcam video, just over three minutes long, shows a Richardson police officer pursuing the suspect vehicle on September 16.

RICHARDSON, Texas — Police released video Saturday showing a chase through Richardson and Dallas earlier this week in which a murder suspect fired shots at officers. The pursuit ultimately ended with the suspect committing suicide, according to police.

Dashcam video, which is just over three minutes long, shows a Richardson police officer begin pursuing the vehicle on Sept. 16. Police say the vehicle is connected to a homicide in Kaufman County. Dashcam video shows the suspect vehicle driving through an intersection at a high rate of speed and weaving through traffic.

In the video, an officer can be heard saying that speeds reached 90 mph on Spring Valley Road before the suspect, later identified as Donald Ingram, turned south onto Esperanza Road. Shortly afterward, an officer can be heard yelling “shots fired!” while Ingram fired at officers from the moving vehicle, according to police, and the officer appeared to return fire.

Video shows the officer stopping at a stop sign before multiple shots are fired at the police vehicle, shattering the windshield. The officer follows the vehicle, which is stopped on the southbound access road of the 13100 block of North Central Expressway in Dallas.

According to police, three passengers, ages five, 15 and 17, were able to exit the vehicle unharmed. However, investigators told WFAA that Ingram first shot a woman in the passenger seat and then turned the gun on himself, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and come to a stop on the access road.

Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter footage showed officers administering first aid to Ingram.

The Dallas Fire Department arrived and Ingram was pronounced dead, police said. The officer was taken to a hospital in critical condition and was not injured.

Family members told WFAA that Ingram was wanted for the murder of his wife, Michelle Ingram.

The officer who fired the shots has been placed on leave, police said.

The Dallas Police Department and the Dallas County District Attorney's Office are investigating the shooting.
