Bobby Petrino was considered a desperate candidate for Arkansas, Hugh Freeze described him as just as

Bobby Petrino and Hugh Freeze are successful coaches on the field but PR disasters off the field. Joseph Goodman of AL.com labeled them both as desperation candidates for Arkansas and Auburn, respectively.

“Freeze is back in the SEC at Auburn and Petrino is somehow back at Arkansas,” Goodman said up front before saying, “This time, Petrino is the team's offensive coordinator for coach Sam Pittman. Let's face it. Both Freeze and Petrino were hired out of desperation. They were brought in as go-betweens for schools that built their reputations on promises of past success. Everyone deserves a second chance, right? In the SEC, only if they can win.”

Goodman believes Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman is on the hot seat if the Petrino experiment in Fayetteville fails. It's unclear what that means for Petrino, but a new coach is unlikely to keep him. If Petrino himself isn't a coaching option. Freeze's status is less clear, but not set in stone if the Tigers suffer more tough losses like they did in Week 2 against Cal.

“Pittman will likely be fired at Arkansas this season if he doesn't turn things around with Petrino,” Goodman wrote. “Freeze isn't on the hot seat, but it's time he equated his incredible success in recruiting players with success on the field.”

Bobby Petrino is the last hope of the Sam Pittman era in Arkansas

So far, the Hogs' offense is fine, but the defense leaves a lot to be desired. But it won't be a simple firing of defensive coordinator Travis Williams. Pittman has no chance considering he's an offensive-minded coach who needed a guy (Petrino) to overhaul the offense.

Petrino is Pittman's last hope. Who knows if he is also his own last hope in Arkansas.
