44-year-old man held on $2 million bail during drug investigation after chase and accident in west Jeffco

Two people have been charged following a chase and subsequent crash in western Jefferson County.

The chase traversed multiple jurisdictions and involved three separate accidents, including the county's Star-1 helicopter.

The incident occurred Thursday when Jefferson County Sheriff's Office drug agents were following up on a tip from Crime Stoppers that drugs were being sold in the Bessemer area, sheriff's spokesman Henry Irby said.

Detectives attempted to stop a Chevrolet HHR in the 1700 block of Aaron Aronov Drive in Fairfield, but the driver refused to stop and a chase ensued.

The chase continued through Ensley and Brighton until the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed at the corner of 48th Street and Huntsville Avenue Brighton.

The driver was arrested and taken to UAB Hospital as a precaution and then booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

The passenger fled the scene of the accident, Irby said.

During the chase, a marked police vehicle was involved in an accident between Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and Woodward Road that did not involve a motorist. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

A third accident also occurred in the area of 48th Street and Huntsville Avenue when a sheriff's office vehicle failed to stop on a gravel area and struck a cinder block wall, damaging the wall and the unmarked vehicle. No one was injured.

The driver, 44-year-old Jarvis Anjuan Allen, is charged with trafficking fentanyl and ecstasy, intent to distribute a controlled substance, first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and aggravated fleeing and eluding.

Allen's bonds total over $2 million.

The passenger, 19-year-old Braylin Allen, turned himself in to the Jefferson County Jail. He is charged with attempted escape and was released on $6,000 bail.

Irby said investigators seized 40 grams of fentanyl, 28 grams of ecstasy, 0.67 grams of methamphetamine, 604 grams of marijuana and 9 grams of cocaine.

In addition, a semi-automatic pistol FN 5.7, four mobile phones and two digital scales were confiscated.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with further information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 205-325-1450.
