Jefferson County and Bessemer join forces in drug raid; suspect held on $2 million bail

The Jefferson County Vice and Narcotics Division and Bessemer Special Forces teamed up on a drug raid in the Bessemer area.

Both Jefferson County and Bessemer responded to this case on Thursday, September 19, after Crime Stoppers received a tip about drug trafficking in the area.

During their investigation, detectives identified a vehicle and attempted to stop a Chevrolet HHR in the 7100 block of Aaron Aronov Drive in Fairfield.

The driver refused to stop and a chase ensued.

During the chase, a police unit collided with an unmarked vehicle at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and Woodard Road in Fairfield.

The driver was uninjured but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

The chase continued through the Ensley and Brighton areas when the suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed at the corner of 48th Street and Huntsville Avenue in Brighton.

The passenger of the vehicle fled the scene of the accident before officers could arrest him.

The main suspect, the driver, is identified as 44-year-old Jarvis Anjuan Allen.

Allen was taken to UAB Hospital as a precautionary measure and then to Jefferson County Jail following the accident.

Jarvis Allen is charged with alleged fentanyl trafficking, ecstasy trafficking, intent to distribute a controlled substance, first degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and fleeing and eluding.

Allen's total bail is $2,076,000.00.

Authorities seized 40 grams of fentanyl, 28 grams of ecstasy, 0.67 grams of methamphetamine, 604 grams of marijuana and 9 grams of cocaine.

In addition to the drugs, officers seized an FN 5.7 pistol, 4 cell phones and 2 digital scales.

Allen is in custody at the Jefferson County Jail.

Two days later, on Saturday, September 21, the passenger, a 19-year-old, turned himself in to Jefferson County authorities.

They were charged with attempted escape and bail was set at $6,000.

The 19-year-old was released on bail a short time later.

Jefferson County continues to investigate this case.
