Braves try to recover against Marlins

At this point, we're running out of ways to describe the Braves' 2024 season as increasingly doomed. Given that the team tried to win last night's game against the Marlins with the same urgency that it has throughout the rest of the season, there's virtually no margin for error… but yesterday, there was no real margin for error, and the team still let Charlie Morton stay to score four runs while the bullpen (again, and again, and again) delivered a no-hit performance while the team still lost.

So today it will be about whether Max Fried can either throw well enough so that the Braves don’t have to worry about taking him off the roster, or whether they actually Do take him out before the season is all but over for good. Fried is on a bit of a streak that is incredibly frustrating for both him and the team, as he has a 13/3 K/BB ratio and has only allowed a single home run in his last two games, but the Braves have lost both. If something like that happens to him and the team again, then it would be nothing short of a moral victory for him and his team if his peripherals are good.

The Marlins will start with Adam Oller, who has been below average so far this year, posting a 127/134/130 (ERA-/FIP-/xFIP-) record in six starts. One of those six starts was a really good performance against the Giants, but other than that he's been pretty mediocre. But the Braves keep hitting barrel outs, so you know how it goes at this point.
