Head-on collision on I-26 leaves two dead in Orangeburg County

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol says two people were killed in a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 26 Saturday morning.

The accident occurred at about 11:20 a.m. on the westbound side of I-26, Master Trooper Gary Miller said.

According to police, a Honda CRV was traveling east on I-26 at mile marker 156, about six miles north of Bowman, when it veered off the right side of the road and its driver oversteered and lost control. The vehicle then veered left across the median and struck a Chrysler van head-on, Miller said.

Three other vehicles, a GMC Denali, an Acura sedan and a GMC pickup truck, all traveling west on I-26, were damaged by debris in the crash, he said.

The drivers of the Honda and the Chrysler were killed in the accident.

The Orangeburg County Coroner's Office has not yet released their names.
