Car theft in Three Rivers leads to a chase and then an accident

THREE RIVERS, Mich. (WNDU) – Three Rivers Police received information about a Kalamazoo County car theft that may have occurred in Three Rivers after the victim was attacked and pushed from the vehicle.

Using an automatic license plate reading system, officers were able to create a detailed description of the stolen vehicle.

After the information was shared, a St. Joe County deputy observed the stolen vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop.

The vehicle panicked, crashed into another occupied vehicle and drove through residents' lawns before crashing.

As the suspect fled on foot, a sniffer dog track was picked up, but the trail was lost at the Portage River.

A concerned citizen noticed the suspect and called 911 several hours later, where officers were able to arrest the suspect.
