Harrisburg High School student arrested and accused of threatening school | The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

A Harrisburg High School student was arrested Friday after a threat was made against the school, district officials said, the latest of many similar arrests across the state in recent weeks.

“This afternoon, a student at Harrisburg High School made a threat to his friends against the school,” the Harrisburg School District said in a Facebook post around 8:30 p.m. Friday. “The student was arrested and is currently in custody.”

Just the day before, the district had posted: “Recently, rumors have been circulating about potential safety concerns. We have thoroughly investigated these claims in conjunction with local law enforcement and can confirm that there is no evidence of any danger.”

It was not clear whether this post was related to the later post announcing the student's arrest.

The Harrisburg student's arrest came the same day that five students, ages 10 and 11, at Parkway Elementary School in Bryant were arrested after making threats against school employees and other students.

That same day, police reported that officers arrested two people based on a report of “possibly armed individuals” at Marion High School, but did not find any weapons.

Also on Friday, the principal of Little Rock Central told parents that a student had been expelled from campus and would face “legal consequences” after a threat was made on social media.

At least eight more students have been arrested in connection with threats against schools in Arkansas over the past two weeks. Several schools and school districts across the state said earlier this month that they would increase police presence in response to such threats.
