Chenna Borra is accused of grabbing the breasts of an Uber driver on a trip from Aurora to Schaumburg while the driver was there as a customer (SOURCE: DuPage County District Attorney's Office).

DuPage County Prosecutor Robert Berlin and ISP Criminal Investigations Division Zone 1 Chief Andrew Anselm announced Thursday, September 19, 2024, that Judge Joshua Dieden granted the state's motion to deny the preliminary release of a Schaumburg man accused of sexually assaulting an Uber driver yesterday morning. Chenna Borra, age 30, of the 0-99 block of Wildflower Lane, appeared in court Thursday morning, September 19, 2024, charged with Aggravated Assault in a Public Place (Class 3 Felony) and Sexual Abuse (Class 4 Felony).

According to the DuPage County District Attorney's Office, the victim, an Uber driver, picked up the defendant from an address in Aurora at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. After loading luggage into the trunk of the vehicle, Borra got into the passenger seat of the vehicle. Minutes after Borra merged onto I-88 from Route 59 westbound, he allegedly grabbed the woman by the chin and squeezed her cheek. After the victim told Borra to stop, Chenna Borra allegedly pointed at the woman's chest and squeezed her right breast. When they reached their destination in Schaumburg, Borra exited the vehicle, retrieved his luggage from the trunk, and drove away. The victim then called 911 to report the alleged encounter. Borra was taken into custody following an investigation by the Illinois State Police.

“The allegations against Mr. Borra are extremely disturbing. Rideshare drivers have a difficult job that involves working unusual hours and sometimes driving in areas they are unfamiliar with. They do not need the added stress of having to worry about their personal safety, and my office will do everything we can to protect these hardworking people from harm. I commend the victim in this case for bringing this matter to the attention of law enforcement. I thank the Illinois State Police and Schaumburg Police Department for their quick response and efforts to identify and arrest the defendant in this case. I also thank Assistant District Attorneys Adam Frahm and Cathy Nusgart for their work in obtaining the charges against Mr. Borra.”

— DuPage County District Attorney Robert B. Berlin

“Within hours of beginning the investigation, ISP special agents were able to present the case against Borra to the DuPage County District Attorney's Office. The quick action of ISP, the Schaumburg Police Department and the District Attorney's Office can help bring justice to this victim.”

— Commander of the ISP Criminal Investigation Division, Zone 1, Andrew Anselm

Borra's next court date is scheduled for October 15, 2024, for arraignment before Judge Joseph Bugos. Meanwhile, Chenna R. Borra remains in custody at the DuPage County Correctional Facility in Wheaton, Illinois, where he was booked on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 10:35 p.m.

The public is reminded that this complaint contains only charges and does not constitute proof of the defendant's guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which the burden is on the government to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
