8 people arrested in heated confrontation after peaceful pro-Palestinian rally in Orlando

According to Orlando police, eight people were arrested Saturday following a peaceful pro-Palestinian rally in Orlando. Police said the demonstration began around 4 p.m. and about 20 participants walked peacefully around the lake. Officers from the Downtown and Parramore bike units were present to monitor the event, which ended without incident at 5:15 p.m. However, around 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance near the Publix on East Central Boulevard. Police found some protesters arguing with a person who held a different opinion. As officers attempted to separate the two parties, a member of the pro-Palestinian group lunged at an officer and the opposing person “in a physically threatening manner,” according to police. This prompted police to arrest the protester for disturbing the peace. Officers said several other protesters attempted to prevent the arrest, leading to further altercations.
