During his packed three-day visit as part of the Quad Leaders' Summit, Prime Minister Modi held bilateral meetings with President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Kishida, for whom it was the last summit as leaders of their countries.

During the summit, Prime Minister Modi stated that the Quad is not against anyone but for a rules-based international order and respect for sovereignty.

“Our message is clear: Quad is here to stay, to help, to partner and to complement,” he said in his opening speech at the summit. He also expressed his desire to host the next summit in India.

At the Quad Summit, the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, measures against China and its activities in the South China Sea were also discussed.

The group of leaders also issued a joint statement, the so-called Wilmington Declaration, which states: “Underpinned by shared values, we seek to uphold the international order based on the rule of law. Together, we represent nearly two billion people and over a third of the world's gross domestic product. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific that is inclusive and resilient.”

Modi will travel to New York on September 22 to address a major community event in Long Island. He will address the UN Future Summit on September 23 before returning to India. His address to the Indian diaspora will be delivered at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New York.
