Uttarakhand High Court rejects rape accused Mukesh Bora's bail plea

Nainital: The Uttarakhand High Court on Saturday rejected the interim bail plea of Nainital Dairy Workers' Union president Mukesh Bora, who was facing charges of aggravated rape and violation of sections of the POCSO Act.

Bora has been on the run since the FIR was filed against him. Bora had previously sought a stay of custody in the Supreme Court, but his application was rejected.

On Saturday, he approached the High Court through his lawyers and requested provisional release.

The single bench headed by Justice Ravindra Maithani ruled that his application could not be granted.

The court said that interim bail was not justifiable in cases under POCSO (Prevention of Children From Sexual Offences), NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) and PC Act (Prevention of Corruption Act).

The state also rejected the request for provisional release.

The court stated that serious allegations had been made against the accused and that such a request could not be granted under any circumstances since the accused was on the run and his property had been confiscated.
