Hugh Freeze criticizes Hank Brown and Payton Thorne after the loss against Arkansas: “I know there are people who are open”

For the second time in three weeks Auburn Quarterbacks had problems. Neither Hank Brown still Payton Thorne had a great day against Arkansas The latter, however, delivered a little more juice. Either way, Hugh Freeze is not happy with the results.

The Auburn head coach actually criticized Brown and Thorne during his postgame press conference after they combined for 285 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. Freeze says he knows the receivers are free further down the field, but the Tigers need to find someone to make the throws.

“I know there are guys free, and I know we're running the ball,” Freeze said during his postgame press conference. “We've got to find a guy that's not going to throw the ball to the other team, and we've got to find running backs that are going to hold it… The scheme is what almost everyone in the country uses in some form. But no matter what system you choose, you need a good quarterback.”

In terms of running backs, Freeze refers to a fumble by Damari Alston in the first half, with the game still 7-0 Arkansas. Alston was on his way to a possible touchdown and got as far as the 10-yard line at worst. But an Arkansas defender knocked the ball out before recovering it in the end zone for a touchback.

Most of Freeze's attention, however, is on the quarterbacks. He believes that Brown and Thorne, no matter who is out there, should play and perform at a higher level.

This caught the attention of the former Ole Miss Signal generator Bo Wallaceand criticized his former head coach for his comments. Wallace believes Freeze blames others when Auburn loses, but if there was a win, he would get a lot of self-praise.

“But why is every loss someone else's fault?? … but when we win, I watch the press conferences just to count how many times the word 'I' is used … I appreciate what he did for me, but my son wouldn't play for him,” Wallace said of X.

Regardless of who is to blame, Auburn needs to resolve the quarterback situation pretty quickly. Next up is another home game, with Oklahoma Sooners on the way to the Plains. The Tigers will then be on the road for the entire month of October and will play three games away from Jordan-Hare Stadium.
