TwitchCon updates: Improved broadcast, transparent strikes and shared chat

TwitchCon is currently taking place in San Diego and as usual, the platform's leadership team takes the stage to discuss developments on the site. In a segment on the future of the platform, Twitch's Dan Clancy revealed what's coming next, including improved broadcast resolutions, transparent enforcement, and improvements to the mobile app.

Everything was revealed at TwitchCon San Diego

The Twitch team announced that violations will be made more transparent going forward and users will receive more information about strikes and enforcement actions. It will start with chat-based violations, with Twitch providing snippets of comments that led to enforcement actions against a user.

Additionally, strikes will now be temporary in nature. According to the latest update, strikes will expire after a certain amount of time depending on the severity of the strike in question. This means that strikes on an account will no longer last forever, as is the case now.

In terms of broadcast improvements, Twitch will offer “Enhanced Broadcasting,” which will allow streamers to publish their content in 1440p resolution. This will roll out region by region over the course of the next year.

Streamers can also broadcast horizontally And months of vertical growth.

As for the changes to streaming, Twitch is making things more collaborative and introducing “Shared Chat” to bring communities together. When streamers start the “Stream Together” mechanic, their respective chats will be linked and work together as a unit.

With 70% of new viewers coming to Twitch through the mobile app, the team is constantly working to improve the platform's functionality.

With continued improvements to Creator Clubs and Guild features, Twitch is moving in the right direction, but there is still a lot of work to be done if the platform is to become profitable and sustainable.
