According to police and a news report, four people died in a shooting in a nightlife district in Birmingham, Alabama.

In a social media post, Birmingham police said several people were shot on 20th Street near Magnolia Avenue in the Five Points South neighborhood.

Police investigators said they arrived at the scene to find two men and a woman dead. A fourth victim died at the hospital, WBMA-TV reported.

Other victims were taken to hospitals in private vehicles, police told WBMA.

Birmingham police did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press seeking further information.

Birmingham's Five Points South neighborhood is home to numerous entertainment venues, restaurants and bars, and is often crowded on Saturday nights, WBMA reported.

According to WBMA, police said no immediate arrests were made.

“We will do everything in our power to track down, identify and hunt down the person responsible for the attacks on our people this morning,” Birmingham police Officer Truman Fitzgerald told WBMA.
