When the dust settles Hacking' latest Emmys — Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the show's star, Jean Smart — his growing legion of fans know Hacking Season 4 is on the way. It was announced just hours after the cliffhanger finale of season 3 aired, so answers to all the questions surrounding it are on the way. But when?

A date has not yet been announced – although May 2025 seems a good time due to the launches of previous seasons – but in the meantime, Smart’s prolific career means there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy her many diverse and memorable television and film roles, from Frasier Crane’s seductive but gruff childhood love to Babylon(2022) is a scathing gossip columnist whose pen decides the fate of Hollywood's biggest stars.

In addition to her three Emmys for Hacking (2021, 2022 and 2024) – including a Golden Globe and a SAG Award – it clearly has more to offer than just comedy.

She's comfortable with less likable characters and has an extraordinary ability to turn little more than a cameo into something memorable and meaningful, both of which she achieves in the Ben Affleck-directed thriller. The accountant (2016), currently on Netflix in the UK (in the US the film can be rented through various services including Prime Video).

She casts a dark shadow over the plot as the steely-eyed executive who hires Affleck's math genius to audit her company's finances, and is also frustrated by his constantly impenetrable expression. For an overachiever who always needs to be in control, this is torture. Smart is part of an impressive supporting ensemble that also includes JK Simmons, John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor. Anna Kendrick and Jon Bernthal also star. A sequel to the film, currently known as The Accountant 2finished filming in August, and while some of the original cast members are back for a second round, there is no sign of Smart.

Maybe Deborah Vance keeps her too busy. Although she is not confirmed for season four of Hackingit's hard to imagine the show without her – or even without Hannah Einbinder as her protégé Ava. With Vance about to step onto the biggest stage of her career, the future for Ava could look very different, and there are other loose ends that need to be resolved as well. Plus, the showrunners have announced that they're planning a five-season run. Get ready for even more surprises.

Hacking runs exclusively on Max in the US (so a subscription is required to watch) and on Prime Video in the UK.
