Suspect arrested in connection with Chinese Spring murder

UPDATE:
McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said: 25 messages that the suspect, 36-year-old Richard Ozment of China Spring, was taken into custody after a day-long manhunt by multiple agencies.

McNamara said Ozment was arrested in connection with the murder of a 38-year-old woman, adding that a machete was used.

Five agencies were involved in the search for Ozment, including the McLennan County Sheriff's Office, Waco Police, game wardens, the Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) with tracking dogs and horses.

Sheriff McNamara said a TDCJ mounted deputy found Ozment not far from the crime scene, hiding about 200 to 300 yards away.

Ozment was taken into custody and transported to the McLennan County Sheriff's Office for questioning and to face charges.

Sheriff McNamara said Ozment was sentenced to 40 years in prison for church robbery in 2014, but has only served 10 years and was just released on parole with 30 years of probation remaining on his sentence.

The China Spring Volunteer Fire Department updated its social media page to say the suspect was reportedly arrested.

25 messages is working with the McLennan County Sheriff's Office to confirm details regarding the suspect's identity.

ORIGINAL STORY:
On Saturday morning, the China Spring Fire Department posted on social media asking for help in locating a murder suspect. The fire department urged residents of China Spring and surrounding neighborhoods to be on the lookout for suspicious individuals and to contact the McLennan County Sheriff's Office with any information.

Sheriff Parnell McNamara tells 25 messages a woman was killed and the suspect fled the scene. Investigators are at a home in the 1500 block of Old China Spring Road that may be connected to the case.

A helicopter is being used to search for the suspect. The Sheriff's Office cannot provide us with a description of the suspect at this time, and the cause of death is unknown. A neighbor told us that the residents of the home have been keeping to themselves.
