Modi depicts a “72-hour whirlwind in the life of bohemian artist Amedeo Modigliani” and deals with the artist's turbulent experiences against the backdrop of war-torn Paris in 1916. The film also stars French actors Antonia Desplat and Riccardo Scamarcio.

The film's synopsis shows Modigliani's struggles as he flees from the police. As he considers ending his career and leaving the city, he faces resistance from fellow artists Maurice Utrillo, Chaim Soutine and his muse Beatrice Hastings.

When Modigliani seeks advice from his friend and art dealer Leopold Zborowski, his nightly hallucinations become increasingly intense and lead to a crucial encounter with American collector Maurice Gangnat, who, according to Deadline, has the potential to change the course of his life.

After debuting at the San Sebastian Film Festival, Modi will now be screened in Rome. According to Deadline, the festival will also present Viggo Mortensen with a Lifetime Achievement Award and will present his film The Dead Don't Hurt there.

This narrative follows the journey of Vivienne Le Coudy, played by Vicky Krieps, as she navigates a complex relationship with Danish immigrant Holgen Olsen, played by Mortensen. Their love story unfolds against the turbulent backdrop of the American Civil War of the 1860s.

The 2024 edition of the Rome Film Festival is scheduled to take place from October 16 to 27.
