Cal Poly dorm counselor arrested for attempted sexual assault and burglary

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – A Cal Poly student and dorm advisor was arrested Thursday in connection with a break-in at an on-campus apartment in early September, according to an email from the Cal Poly campus.

In an email sent to Your NewsChannel on Sept. 7, Cal Poly police received a report of an attempted burglary at one of the university's apartments in Poly Canyon Village around 3 a.m.

“The university reported this incident to the campus community in a timely warning email pursuant to the Clery Act,” the campus email said.

The CPPD investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old student and dorm advisor at a university dorm on Thursday, September 19, at approximately 3:45 p.m. He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail and charged with attempted rape and burglary, according to the campus email.

According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office's Who's in Custody page, bail for the 25-year-old has been set at $100,000.

Cal Poly says the student was denied access to campus and that “the matter has been escalated to Cal Poly's Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.”
