I wish we were still close

Tia Mowry speaks openly about being alone for the first time in her life.

A new sneak peek of Tia's upcoming WE TV series Tia Mowry: My next appearanceshows the 46-year-old actress talking about her strained relationship with her twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley as well as her divorce from her ex-husband Cory Hardrict.

“I was born with a twin and had a 22-year relationship right after that, so I was never alone in my life. It was quite a journey,” said the Sister, sister says Alum in the teaser shared on YouTube on Friday, September 20.

“Being alone was the hardest part of my divorce,” Tia adds, referring to her recent separation from Hardrict, whom she was married to for 14 years after tying the knot in 2008.

“In moments like this, I wish my sister and I were still close and I could pick up the phone and call her,” she says directly into the camera. “But that's just not the case right now.”

Many fans wrote on social media that they were surprised that the two sisters had grown apart – especially after Tamera praised her twin sister for how well she handled her divorce, saying: Entertainment tonight in 2022 that “she is living her authentic, true self.”

“Damn, I was deeply touched to learn that you and Tamera aren't as close as they used to be,” one YouTube user commented under the preview video.

“I'm looking forward to the show,” wrote another YouTube user. “It's sad that she and her sister aren't close, but I hope they are now.”

A source told PEOPLE that Tia's comments about not being “close” to her sister were actually geographical. “The sisters are still close, but the quote being referenced was about the distance – Tamera lives in Napa and Tia lives in Los Angeles,” the source said.

On Friday, September 20, Tia shared a light-hearted Instagram post jokingly recalling the moment Tamera drank some of her breast milk after giving birth to her son, Cree.

“Yes, this actually happened!” she wrote in the caption. “With my new show Tia Mowry: My Next Act coming out October 4th, I had to bring back this iconic moment. Get ready for more laughs, realness, and all the new chapters ahead!”

Tia also talks about her divorce in the teaser, saying she was tired of “people thinking everything was perfect when it wasn't.”

“I think I've lost myself,” she explains. “I have this beautiful house, I have wonderful children, but the only thing I'm missing is love.”

“Divorce is about starting over and learning to live again,” she adds.

Elsewhere in the teaser, Tia talks about her relationship with fame and the public's perception of her, explaining that she has been “in the public eye since I was 14.”

“There is a completely different side of me,” she says.

Tia and Hardrict – who have a son Cree, 13, and a daughter Cairo, 6 – finalized their divorce in April 2023, six months after announcing their separation. Tia and Tamera The star first announced the couple's split in October 2022 with a heartfelt Instagram post.

“I have always been honest with my fans and today is no different. I wanted to share that Cory and I have decided to go our separate ways,” she wrote at the time. “These decisions are never easy and are not without sadness. We will maintain a friendship as we raise our beautiful children together.”

She continued, “I am grateful for all the happy times we have had together and want to thank my friends, family and fans for their love and support as we begin this new chapter in our lives.”
