Chicago police search for vehicle after serious hit-and-run accident


CHICAGO — Police are searching for a vehicle involved in a serious hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist seriously injured early Saturday morning in the city's southwest area. The incident occurred around 3:11 a.m. near the intersection of 39th Street and Cicero Avenue, according to Chicago police.

A brown 2017 Chevrolet traveling south on Cicero Avenue struck the cyclist and then fled the scene without stopping to offer help or exchange information, police said. The victim was hospitalized with serious injuries.

An Illinois license plate with the number EQ47678 was found at the scene of the crash, officials reported. The vehicle was last seen a few minutes after the incident on eastbound I-55 near Kedzie Avenue. The front end is believed to have sustained damage from the impact.

Authorities are asking the public for assistance in locating the vehicle or identifying its driver. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made.

The individual then exited the train at the Atlantic Avenue Station. No injuries were reported in this incident.

  • 42-year-old man shot dead in Brooklyn, police said

    BROOKLYN, NY — A 42-year-old man was shot and killed in the East New York neighborhood early Sunday morning, police said. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at 648 Georgia Avenue at about 3:44 a.m. in the 75th Precinct.

    Upon arrival, police found the victim with gunshot wounds to the shoulder and arm. Emergency responders took him to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

    Authorities have not yet released the victim's identity and are waiting to notify family members.

    No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting and the investigation is still ongoing, according to officials.

    The incident is the latest in a series of violent crimes in the area. Detectives are continuing to search for clues in the case.
