The Los Angeles Chargers have officially listed quarterback Justin Herbert as questionable for Sunday's Week 3 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a sprained ankle, but Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh told CBS Sports' Tracy Wolfson that Herbert's decision will be made later in the game.

Harbaugh added that he hopes the swelling goes down in the next 24 hours so Herbert can play. Harbaugh said he is preparing scenarios where Easton Stick and Taylor Heinicke will be used, or even the possibility of all three playing if Herbert is limited.

Herbert was limited in Thursday's practice after missing Wednesday's session due to what the team cited as an ankle injury. Herbert himself elaborated on the injury in a conversation with reporters on Friday.

The 26-year-old said he suffered an ankle sprain in last Sunday's win over the Carolina Panthers. Herbert added that it has “not been decided yet” whether he will play in Week 3, adding that the pain is “not great.”

“Luckily it’s only Friday,” Herbert said via ESPN.

Herbert was present at the final practice of the week on Friday and reporters on site noticed that the quarterback's right ankle was heavily bandaged.

Despite sustaining the injury in Week 2, Herbert played the entire game against the Panthers. In the 26-3 victory, he completed 14 of his 20 passes for 130 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 18 yards on six carries.

The Chargers are 2-0 heading into this Week 3 game against the Steelers, who also enter this matchup undefeated. Of course, a hampered or no Herbert would drastically reduce the club's chances of staying out of the red, especially against a Pittsburgh defense that has smothered its opponents over the first two weeks of the year.
