Bruce Willis: Daughter Tallulah Willis shares sad update on star's health battle

“You have to be in the here and now. You have to be present,” she added when asked if she ever looks at Willis and wonders how he would be without the disease.

Willis, 69, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in February 2023, shortly after receiving a diagnosis of aphasia the previous year.

In May, Rumer Willis gave an update on Willis' health in an interview with Fox News.

“I think the most incredible thing about this experience for me was how beloved my father is. That was so evident in the openness with which we shared everything,” she continued.

“And I think if there's any hope in any way that we share our experiences – whatever happens as a family – that it can have an impact and provide some kind of hope and comfort to someone else who's going through this, then that to me is… everything.”

Willis' family announced in March 2022 that he was retiring from acting after he was initially diagnosed with aphasia, defined by the Mayo Clinic as a brain disorder that affects speech and language comprehension. A year later, they announced that his aphasia had progressed to frontotemporal dementia.

“Although painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,” they said in a statement on the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration website.

“FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and that can affect anyone. In people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia and because it can take years to diagnose, FTD is probably much more common than we know.”
