Interstate 10 eastbound closed after fatal accident

PHOENIX — Eastbound Interstate 10 is closed at Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway in Phoenix following a fatal crash Sunday morning, authorities said.

At 1:17 a.m. a vehicle was traveling at 225 km/h when it collided with a motorcycle.

After the collision, the vehicle continued traveling for a mile before catching fire and coming to a stop. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital and later died of his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested. Authorities believe he acted negligently. The investigation is ongoing.

All traffic on I-10 will be diverted to Loop 202 southbound. according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. There is no estimated date for reopening.
