Second Guilford County inmate ‘erroneously released’, arrest report says

Another inmate was accidentally released in Guilford County, but is already back in custody, according to a police report.

According to the report, 38-year-old Jessie Dale Steed was “wrongly released from jail while serving a prison sentence.” An arrest warrant was issued on Thursday and High Point police arrested Steed on Westchester Drive in High Point at around 6 p.m. that same day.

Steed was initially charged with aggravated assault. He is back in High Point Jail and is being held without bail.

“The incident did not occur on behalf of the Guilford County Sheriff's Office,” a GCSO representative said in response to a request for comment from ABC45.

The incident occurred just days after the Guilford County Sheriff's Office said an inmate had been “unlawfully released.”

According to arrest warrants, Carlos Geovany Diaz-Gomez, 32, used another inmate's identity information while in prison and impersonated him in order to be released from custody on Monday. He was taken back to prison on Friday.
