Panthers coach Maurice enjoys the trophy; Crosby signs two-year contract extension

Fort Lauderdale, Florida. – Paul Maurice spent his summer on a Canadian lake. His location is best described as the middle of nowhere. He usually drank coffee with his wife in the morning, either on the dock or on the porch, depending on how bad the black flies were that day. Sometimes it took 30 minutes. Sometimes it took hours.

And he loved the peace and quiet.

“It was just peaceful,” he said.

In short, the coach of the Stanley Cup-winning Florida Panthers – who spent 30 years chasing hockey's greatest title – needed a break. A long break. He needed to get away from practices and game plans, microphones and recording equipment. So, shortly after the Panthers' championship parade (where he stole the show with an emotional, sometimes vulgar speech), he packed up the car and made the three-day drive to Canada to seek solitude and peace, a place to reflect and relax.
