EDDIE VEDDER: I was working these night shifts as security. When I went surfing in the morning… But I remember it was super foggy and it was one of those days where you think, “Maybe I'm not going out”… So these waves just kind of came out of nowhere. And-but I had the music in my head, the instrumental music, and, and just wrote it. And then I was still wet when I pressed record.

ANTHONY MASON: What did you think when you heard what he sent back?

JEFF AMENT: I listened to it. And then I remember going and getting a coffee, and then I came back and listened to it again. … And then I remember calling Stone. [Gossard] and say-and I said, “You have to come here immediately.”

NARRATOR: BASSIST JEFF AMENT AND GUITARISTS STONE GOSSARD AND MIKE MCCREADY FLY WITH VEDDER TO SEATTLE TO AUDITION.

VEDDER: It was like you felt it. Like you thought, “Oh, this is it. This is it” … I thought, “This is heaven.”

In an extensive interview, Vedder and Ament talk about their childhood, making music together, their loyal fan base, touring, growing older and their friendship. The video preview is available on X
