Perry Farrell's wife announces he is seeking help after fight against Dave Navarro

Perry Ferrell works on himself after his onstage brawl with his Jane's Addiction bandmate Dave Navarro.

Perry's wife, Etty Lau Farrell, posted a statement on Instagram on Saturday, saying the couple were “infinitely grateful and deeply touched” by the “beautiful words of love and support” they had received since the incident.

“As you know, Perry is a very gentle person,” she wrote. “We are as astonished as you are by Perry's physical outbursts – but please know that Perry was pushed to his limits… for that we apologize.”

“We are taking some time for ourselves to reflect and heal,” said 49-year-old Etty Lau, adding that Perry, 65, “already has appointments with an ENT doctor and a neurologist.”

“If you know and love Perry well, you know there is no need for me to address the other false narratives,” she continued. “Our souls know.”

Etta Lau then said that Perry will “hold on,” “recover,” and “be happy again.”

“When he is ready, he will surely overcome great obstacles again to make us laugh and think and change the world together,” she added. “Then we can celebrate together. And you will know that we could not have done it without you.”

The argument between Perry and 57-year-old Navarro occurred on September 13 during the band's performance in Boston.

Perry was in the middle of singing “Ocean Size” when he became visibly angry and shouted insults at the audience and his bandmates.

He went for Navarro's face and started thrashing around before several crew members and bassist Eric Avery rushed over and held the frontman down.

The next day, Etty Lau claimed on Instagram that tensions had increased between Perry and the rest of the band because his voice was being drowned out by all of their instruments.

Etty Lau said that after the other three band members left the stage, Avery, 59, “went to Perry in the dark, backstage, [sound technician Dan Cleary]took Perry in a headlock and punched him three times in the stomach.”

“Perry was a mad animal for the next half hour – finally, instead of calming down, he broke down and cried and cried,” wrote Etty Lau.

Due to the dispute, the rock group canceled all remaining dates of their reunion tour.

“To all fans, the band has made the difficult decision to take a break as a group,” the band said in an Instagram statement.

Navarro, Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins released a separate statement blaming Perry's “ongoing pattern of behavior and mental health issues” for the dispute and the cancellation of the tour.

“Our concern for his personal health and safety, as well as our own, leaves us no choice. We hope he finds the help he needs,” the trio said.

Perry, meanwhile, apologized for his behavior in a statement of his own.

“This weekend was incredibly difficult and after having time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, my fans, family and friends for my behavior during Friday's show,” Perry said.

He added: “Unfortunately, my breach resulted in inexcusable conduct and I take full responsibility for how I handled the situation.”

Sources familiar with the situation told The Washington Post exclusively that Perry was “heartbroken over his actions” and finally realized “he waited too long to prioritize his well-being.”

“His exhaustion and the strain it has placed on both his physical and mental health has gone too far,” the source explained. “He had the best intentions when he went on tour with the band and feels he has let his fans and family down.”

Jane's Addiction was founded in 1985. In the summer, the core members of the group started their first joint tour in 14 years.
