On September 20, at approximately 4:52 p.m., New Bedford Police responded to 86 Atlantic Street for a reported stabbing. When they arrived, they found a 31-year-old New Bedford woman, later identified as Kerri Fidalgo, suffering from apparent stab wounds.

Fidalgo was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Prosecutors said she had been living in an apartment at that address.

In December 2019, Tyler Baglini of Dartmouth, who is the same age, was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly assaulting his then-wife multiple times over a six-month period.

He was charged at the time with first-degree domestic sexual assault, domestic assault by strangulation, and two counts of simple assault in a domestic setting.
