Interstate 10 eastbound reopened after fatal accident

PHOENIX — Eastbound Interstate 10 has reopened at Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway in Phoenix following a fatal crash Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, all traffic on I-10 was diverted to Loop 202 south until the closure was lifted around 9:30 a.m.

At 1:17 a.m. a vehicle was traveling at 225 km/h when it collided with a motorcycle.

After the collision, the vehicle continued traveling for a mile before catching fire and coming to a stop. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital and later died of his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested. Authorities believe he acted negligently. The investigation is ongoing.
