The Bears are reportedly considering another change in the offensive line

In the 37 games that Matt Eberflus plays as head coach, the Bears offensive line may face another change in the starting lineup.

According to a report from Brad Biggs of the Tribune, Matt Pryor will start ahead of Nate Davis at right guard when the Bears play the Indianapolis Colts at noon today. Davis' participation in the game is officially questionable according to the injury report. It would be the 21st change to the starting lineup.

The Bears started the same lineup for the first two games. Davis is recovering from a groin injury and only participated in partial practice last week. He was not listed on the injured list last week before the game against the Texans, although he suffered from a “soft tissue injury” at times during training camp.

“Nate Davis was limited today, injured his groin again, strained it a little on Wednesday, but he worked on it again today,” coach Matt Eberflus said. “He was limited and we'll see how long he stays in the game.”

Pryor trained extensively with regulars during the offseason when Davis was plagued by injury and also at times during training camp. He also filled in as a tackle. At 6'1″ and 330 pounds, Pryor is their tallest offensive lineman.

“He's a big guy, that's for sure,” Eberflus said. “He takes up some space in there, but he's really improved. He's one of our most improved linemen, and I know he's been playing and so on.”

“We really see an improvement in him and what he's brought to the table in terms of his work ethic, his energy and what he brings to the table as a teammate as well. I'm really happy for him if he's working with Nate there or whatever that may be. We'll see him get closer to the game, but he's really had a good week of work.”

When Eberflus spoke of “breaking in,” he was referring to Week 1, when the Bears used Ryan Bates and Davis at right guard, but Bates ended up getting more than twice as many snaps as Davis (38-18). However, Bates had elbow and shoulder injuries and had to go on the injured list.

Pryor is in his seventh year and started only more than half of his team's games in 2020 as a second-year guard for the Philadelphia Eagles.

He then started as a substitute in nine games for the Eagles in 2022 as a guard and tackle.

The Bears are his fourth team. Last year he played for the 49ers and did not start a single game.

In his 77 games played, he was in the starting eleven 24 times.

The Bears have allowed nine sacks so far, ranking 28th in the NFL. They rank 28th in rushing yards and 29th in yards per carry attempt.
