Iran arrests twelve defendants for collaborating with Israel

Iranian authorities have announced the arrest of 12 people accused of “collaborating” with the country’s arch-enemy Israel, local media reported on Sunday.

The Revolutionary Guards have arrested “12 collaborators of the Zionist regime (Israel) in six provinces” of the Islamic Republic, the Fars news agency reported.

Iran regularly announces the arrest of people accused of working as agents for foreign countries, especially Israel.

Fars did not give the date or location of the arrests, but said the defendants had planned “operations against the security” of Iran.

Tehran accuses Israel of being behind acts of sabotage at several of its nuclear facilities and of murdering several Iranian scientists.

In December, authorities executed a man convicted of collaborating with Israel's Mossad intelligence agency.

And in December 2022, four men were hanged after being found guilty of collaborating with Israel.

Iran has repeatedly threatened retaliation for the July attack in Tehran that Israel blamed on Israel. The attack killed Ismail Haniyeh, the Qatar-based political leader of the militant Palestinian group Hamas.
