Capello tells anecdote: Fonseca is taking “a big risk” against Inter – could prove successful

Legendary manager Fabio Capello has tonight given his thoughts on rumours of Paulo Fonseca making changes to AC Milan's starting XI. Citing an example from his own career, he believes the Portuguese coach could be right about taking a “big risk”.

In fact, how according to the latest reportsFonseca will use both Tammy Abraham and Alvaro Morata in attack in today's Derby della Madonnina against Inter. In addition, he will keep Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao on the wings, meaning it will effectively be a 4-2-4.

In his recent editorial for Gazzetta dello Sport, former Milan coach Capello spoke about the move, saying that Fonsexa would be taking “a big risk” but also stressing that this could save the coach's job.

“Tonight we have another big game, the Milan derby, even if the mood at Inter and Milan is almost opposite. Inzaghi's team put in a great performance in Manchester, while the Rossoneri are struggling and I understand that Fonseca is already at risk. In that sense, it is obvious to give the Nerazzurri the role of favourites. But be careful not to be presumptuous and lower your attention threshold. Milan is always Milan and the derby is the derby.

“Fonseca could change things by focusing on Abraham and Morata from the start. Interesting solution: the Englishman has shown a lot of enthusiasm in his first appearances and can also be an incentive for his teammates. It will certainly not be easy for the Rossoneri to practice the Portuguese coach's football against Inter: the Italian champions are exceptionally good at evading the opponent's pressing thanks to a high-class midfield and the game against City was further proof of this.

“That's why Fonseca is taking a big risk with the two strikers plus Pulisic and Leao. However, the Rossoneri coach knows what awaits him. If he wins, he will be right, otherwise he will experience what everyone already thinks. I experienced something similar as Real Madrid coach before an away game at Barcelona. It wasn't a derby, but you can understand that the wait was similar… In the end, we won and I was confirmed on the bench. I wish Fonseca the same happy ending,” he explained.

It remains to be seen whether Fonseca is right, but there are certainly big doubts about the defensive phase. He seems more interested in scoring more goals than Inter to get the three points, as well as was mentioned at the press conference yesterday.
