Murder investigation launched after a man in his 60s dies of his injuries following a 'brawl' in a house – while police arrest and question two men about the man's death

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following a “brawl” in a house in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to the scene at 5am today following a disturbance at a property in Wallsend, North Tyneside.

It was reported that a man in his 60s suffered “serious injuries,” which police said were “consistent with an assault.”

The emergency services arrived and despite all the doctors' efforts, the man was unfortunately pronounced dead a short time later.

Following the man's death, officers launched a murder investigation and two men – aged 41 and 34 – were arrested on suspicion of murder. They are both currently in police custody.

The relatives of the deceased have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers.

As the investigation began, a police forensics team in white overalls and a police dog were also seen at the crime scene.

Other officers were seen going door to door with a clipboard asking questions.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Steel, of Northumbria Police's Major Investigation Team, said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who has sadly passed away at this difficult time.”

“I would ask that their privacy be respected as they try to process what has happened.”

“We have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the man's death, which we are treating as suspicious.”

“Two people were arrested and are currently still in police custody.”

He added: “I appeal to anyone with information relating to our investigation to contact us immediately.
