Barcelona striker extends his lead in the Pichichi Trophy after a brace against Villarreal

Barcelona continued their outstanding form in La Liga with another overwhelming victory on Sunday, this time against Villarreal.

Robert Lewandowski was the star of the game for the Catalans, as the Polish international scored a stunning brace.

Both of his goals came in the first half, including his opening goal, when he masterfully seized a brilliant pass from Pablo Torre to make it 1-0.

Lewandowski's second goal came in the 35th minute, just minutes before Villarreal reduced the deficit through Ayoze Perez.

The Pole was already leading the table before this game and scored four goals in his first five league games.

The experienced striker now has six goals to his name and is two goals ahead of second-placed Kylian Mbappe.

Vinicius Junior and Lamine Yamal are in third place with three goals each.

Interestingly, Lewandowski had an almost identical start last season, scoring five goals in the first six games, but only scoring three goals in the next 14 matches.

FC Barcelona fans hope that this will not be the case this time, especially given the overall improvement in performance that it has shown this season under the leadership of Hansi Flick.
