VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) — Due to an incident involving hazardous materials, residents of Ventura were forced to evacuate their homes on Sunday.

According to Ventura police, the order affected homes along Bayshore Avenue, south of Peninsula Street and Marina Park.

First responders were on site and investigated “potentially dangerous concentrations of hydrocarbon vapors.”

All residents are urged to avoid the area.

Further information about the incident can be found here.

A methane leak led to the evacuation of homes in a Ventura neighborhood on Thursday, just blocks from an elementary school and the beach.

Sunday's incident came days after residents in the area were forced to evacuate due to a methane leak.

Officials said Sunday they had identified the source of the leak.

“It was determined that a gasoline-containing substance had entered the sewer line from a nearby property. The property owner is currently investigating and locating the exact cause and location of the leak,” city officials said.
