NFL Week 3 Injury Report: George Kittle, Joe Mixon out; decisions on playing time for Jordan Love and Justin Herbert

Two star quarterbacks will decide on their playing time on Sunday. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is battling a severe ankle sprain, while Packers quarterback Jordan Love is recovering quickly from his knee injury, making him eligible to play on Sunday.

Herbert and Love are the headliners, but there are plenty of other notable injuries to sift through. Here's a look at each team's final injury report for Week 3, along with an analysis of what those injuries could mean for Sunday.

All NFL odds courtesy of SportsLine Consensus.

Giants: CB Nick McCloud (knee) OUT; OLB Brian Burns (groin), ILB Darius Muasau (knee) QUESTIONABLE
Shades of brown: TE David Njoku (ankle), RB Pierre Strong Jr. (hamstring) OUT; OT Jack Conklin (knee), OT Jedrick Wills (knee) QUESTIONABLE

Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux (shoulder) is not reported injured for Sunday after appearing on the injury report this week. For the Browns, Wills was limited in practice all week, while Conklin was limited after not appearing on the injury report the past two days. Fortunately for the Browns, they have a very capable backup tackle in James Hudson III, a four-year veteran who started the team's first two games.

Packer: OT Jordan Morgan (shoulder) OUT; DB Carrington Valentine (ankle) QUESTIONABLE; QB Jordan Love (knee) QUESTIONABLE
Titans: RB Tyjae Spears (ankle) QUESTIONABLE

Love, who was originally scheduled to miss at least two weeks, could miss just one game if he can play Sunday. Love has been limited in practice all week after missing last Sunday's win over the Colts. Love's choice will not be decided until the game, but Malik Willis (who made 12 of 14 shots in last week's win) is ready to play against his former team if Love can't play.

Spears, who was a full participant in practice on Friday, has a good chance of winning with the Titans.

Bears: WR Keenan Allen (heel, personal), FB Khari Blasingame (hand/knee), DL Zacch Pickens (groin), RB Travis Homer (finger) OUT; OL Nate Davis (groin) QUESTIONABLE
Colts: None

With Allen still out, that should give rookie Rome Odunze more targets after he was only targeted once in the Bears' first two games. Davis was a full-time starter on Friday, so there's a good chance he plays on Sunday.

Texans: RB Dameon Pierce (hamstring), RB Joe Mixon (ankle) OUT; C Jarrett Patterson (calf), C Juice Scruggs (groin), S MJ Stewart (knee) QUESTIONABLE

Vikings: WR Jordan Addison (ankle), OLB Dallas Turner (knee), LB Ivan Pace Jr. (quad) OUT

Mixon hasn't practiced all week, so Cam Akers and Dare Ogunbowale will start for Houston. Patterson didn't practice on Friday, while Scruggs has been limited the past two days.

While Addison's absence hurts, the Vikings will have Justin Jefferson (quad), who was a full participant in practice on Friday. Look for Jalen Nailor to get more targets without Addison.

Eagle: WR AJ Brown (hamstring) OUT; CB CJ Gardner-Johnson (foot) QUESTIONABLE
Saints: DT Khalen Saunders (calf) OUT; TE Taysom Hill (chest) QUESTIONABLE; LB D'Marco Jackson (calf), T Landon Young (foot), S Will Harris (shin), WR AT Perry (illness) QUESTIONABLE

The Eagles desperately need a wide receiver other than DeVonta Smith to fill in for Brown's absence. That player could be Britain Covey, who has caught all six balls he's faced in two games. However, it's safe to assume that Smith, Saquon Barkley and tight end Dallas Goedert will catch most of Jalen Hurts' balls.

New Orleans will have to deal with a number of injuries if it wants to be 3-0. Perry was a full participant in practice on Friday, while Harris, Jackson and Hill were limited. Young did not practice for the third day in a row.

Chargers: Junior Colson (hamstring) OUT; QB Justin Herbert (ankle), WR Josh Palmer (elbow/calf), OLB Bud Dupree (illness), S Alohi Gilman (knee), CB Ja'Sir Taylor (fibula) QUESTIONABLE
Steelers: G Isaac Seumalo (pec), TE MyCole Pruitt (knee), OT Troy Fautanu (knee) OUT; QB Russell Wilson (calf) QUESTIONABLE

As previously mentioned, Herbert announced on Friday that he is currently dealing with a high ankle sprain. Herbert did not practice on Friday, was limited on Thursday and did not practice on Wednesday. Backup Easton Stick, who had an 0-4 record as the team's starting quarterback in 2023, would start against Pittsburgh if Herbert is unable to play.

For the Steelers, Fautanu was injured on Friday, meaning former first-round pick Broderick Jones will start after sitting on the bench in last week's win over the Broncos. Rookie wideout Roman Wilson is expected to make his NFL debut after an ankle injury sidelined him for the entire preseason.

Broncos: OLB Baron Browning (foot), S JL Skinner (ankle) OUT
Buccaneer: T Luke Goedeke (concussion), DL Calijah Kancey (calf), S Antoine Winfield Jr. (foot) OUT; WR Kameron Johnson (ankle), NT Vita Vea (knee) QUESTIONED; DL William Gholston (knee), DB Josh Hayes (ankle) QUESTIONED

Tampa Bay will need some reserves on Sunday, including Christian Izien, who is again slated to start in place of Winfield. Izien, a former undrafted rookie, has played well when he has been needed. He had one pick in last week's win over Detroit and two in his rookie season (2023).

Panthers: NT Shy Tuttle (foot) QUESTIONED; DE A'Shawn Robinson (knee), Cornerback Lonnie Johnson (hamstring), S Nick Scott (neck) QUESTIONED
Robber: LB Divine Deablo (oblique/concussion) OUT; CB Decamerion Richardson (hamstring) QUESTIONABLE; DE Maxx Crosby (ankle), DE Tyree Wilson (knee), DT Christian Wilkins (knee) QUESTIONABLE

All three of Carolina's players in question were limited on Friday. For the Raiders, head coach Antonio Pierce said he expects Crosby to play despite being limited during the week of practice.

Dolphins: WR Grant DuBose (shoulder) OUT; RB Raheem Mostert (chest), WR Malik Washington (quad) QUESTIONABLE
Seahawks: LB Uchenna Nwosu (knee) OUT; LB Jerome Baker (hamstring), RB Kenneth Walker III (oblique), T George Fant (knee) QUESTIONED; S K'Von Wallace (shoulder), TE Pharaoh Brown (foot), LB Boye Mafe (knee), WR Laviska Shenault Jr. (foot) QUESTIONED

A long injury report for Seattle. With Walker's participation questionable, Zach Charbonnet is expected to continue to do most of the running for Seattle. De'Von Achane will take on the work for Miami with Mostert's participation questionable. Jeff Wilson should also get some work after averaging 5.2 yards per carry in Week 2 against Buffalo.

Ravens: G Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu (personal) OUT; WR Deonte Harty (calf), LB David Ojabo (quad), CB Nate Wiggins (neck/concussion) QUESTIONABLE
Cowboys: WR Jalen Brooks (ankle), DT Mazi Smith (back), TE John Stephens Jr. (hamstring) QUESTIONABLE

Harty and Ojabo were full participants in practice on Friday, while Wiggins was limited for the second straight day. As expected, Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb (ankle) and cornerback Trevon Diggs (foot) are back in action after spending this week on the injured list. Each of the Cowboys' players in question was limited on Friday.

49ers: WR Deebo Samuel (calf), TE George Kittle (hamstring) OUT; CB Charvarius Ward (hamstring/knee), DE Nick Bosa (rib) QUESTIONABLE

Aries: TE Davis Allen (back), WR Cooper Kupp (ankle) OUT; K Joshua Karty (groin), CB Cobie Durant (toe), NT Bobby Brown III (ankle) QUESTIONABLE

With Samuel and Kittle out, the 49ers will need a lot of play from Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings, who have combined to catch 13 of 19 balls in San Francisco's first two games. Tight end Eric Saubert could also catch more balls if Kittle can't play.

The Rams are the team with the most injuries in the NFL and will have to rely more on wideouts Tyler Johnson, Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell and tight end Colby Parkinson with Kupp out of the roster. Los Angeles will also need to improve its running game, as Kyren Williams is averaging just 2.5 yards per carry.

Lions: S Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle), CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr. (hamstring) OUT; LB Alex Anzalone (concussion), CB Terrion Arnold (illness), G Graham Glasgow (knee), WR Isaiah Williams (abdomen) QUESTIONABLE
Cardinals: DT Dante Stills (shoulder), OT Kelvin Beachum (hamstring), WR Greg Dortch (hamstring) QUESTIONABLE

Each of Detroit's players in question was limited Friday. Wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown (quad) has no injury report after being on the injured list this week. In Arizona, Beachum did not practice Friday after starting the week with no injury report. Jackson Barton, recently promoted from the practice squad, would likely start in Beachum's place if the veteran is unable to play.

Bosses: None
Falcons: None

We have the rare game where there are no injury reports at all.

Jaguars at Bills (-5) (Monday night)

  • Jaguars: TE Evan Engram (hamstring) OUT; RB Tank Bigsby (shoulder), DB Darnell Savage (quadriceps), WR Tim Jones (foot) QUESTIONABLE
  • Invoices: LB Terrel Bernard (chest), CB Taron Johnson (forearm) OUT

Engram will not compete this week after missing every practice with a hamstring injury. Bigsby, Savage and Jones all had limited participation in practice on Saturday.

There were no surprises on the Bills' injury report, as both Bernard and Johnson were out after not practicing all week. Quarterback Josh Allen was still listed on the injury report with his left hand injury, but was a full day-to-day participant.

  • Commanders: DE Clelin Ferrell (knee) OUT; CB Emmanuel Forbes (thumb) QUESTIONABLE
  • Bengal: TE Tanner Hudson (knee), DT Sheldon Rankins (hamstring) OUT; DT BJ Hill (hamstring) QUESTIONED; S Vonn Bell (back), DT Kris Jenkins Jr. (thumb) QUESTIONED

Washington will be without its sack leader as Ferrell is out with a knee injury. In fact, he is the only Commander to record a sack this year. Forbes is surprisingly listed as questionable because of his thumb injury. Coach Dan Quinn said they will wait until Monday to make a final decision, but he may play next week.

The big news for the Bengals is that wide receiver Tee Higgins is not listed on their latest injury report, so he will make his debut in 2024 after missing the first two games with a hamstring injury. Tight end Mike Gesicki also was not assigned to play after being limited earlier in the week with a calf injury. According to The Athletic, Jenkins Jr. (thumb) will play with a brace on his hand, and they will monitor how he does.
