DSU Announces Arrest in Connection to Courtyard Apartments Shooting | Latest News

DOVER, DE – Delaware State University Police announced that two people have been arrested in connection with the Sept. 7 shooting in the Courtyards.

Delaware State University police have arrested two people for the Sept. 7 shooting. Officers arrived at the University Courtyard Apartments around 10:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. DSU police said when they arrived at the scene, they found several vehicles and buildings that had been shot at. No one was injured in this incident.

Through investigative measures, detectives identified 18-year-old Tyrone Harrell and a 15-year-old, both of Dover, as the suspects responsible for this shooting.

According to police, Harrell was an enrolled student at Delaware State University and has since been expelled from the university. The 15-year-old has no ties or connections to DSU, according to police.

According to DSU police, Tyrone Harrell was arrested on September 9, charged with the following, and was sent to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $200,000 fine.

– Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (felony) – 3 counts

– Conspiracy 2nd degree (serious crime)

– First Degree Reckless Endangerment (Aggravated Felony) – 3 counts

– Possession of a firearm during a safe school zone

– Damage to property – 3 charges

On September 20, DSU police reported that “members of the U.S. Marshals Service First State Fugitive Task Force, Dover Police Drug and Organized Crime Unit, Street Crimes Unit and Delaware Probation and Parole found the 15-year-old boy in the 1200 block of White Oak Road. Police say the teen was taken into custody.”

Officers reported that they searched the path the 15-year-old had taken and found an “80.40 caliber polymer pistol with a loaded 30-round magazine.”

The 15-year-old suspect was remanded to the Stevenson House Detention Center on $226,150 cash bail. The following charges were filed:

– Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (felony) – 3 counts

– Conspiracy 2nd degree (serious crime)

– First Degree Reckless Endangerment (Aggravated Felony) – 3 counts

– Possession of a firearm in a safe school zone (felony)

– Possession of a firearm by a person prohibited from possessing it (felony) – 2 counts

– Damage to property – 3 charges
