DK Metcalf: Jaxon Smith-Njigba's big game is a bad sign for the opposing defense

The Seahawks drafted wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round in 2023 with the goal of him maintaining the production they've come to expect from DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, but in his rookie year he delivered only modest numbers as the third man in the wide receiver room.

Smith-Njigba had just two catches in Week 1, but he had 12 catches in last Sunday's win over the Patriots that moved the Seahawks to 2-0 on the season. Metcalf also had 10 catches, and the versatile attack was key to the Seahawks' victory. On Wednesday, Metcalf shared his view that future opponents will expect more of the same.

“I don't think it was good,” Metcalf said via Michael-Shawn Dugar of TheAthletic.com. “I think it's bad for the immune system who will try to cover us from now on.”

In addition to the wideout trio, Metcalf noted the presence of tight end Noah Fant and running back duo Ken Walker and Zach Charbonnet, calling the Seahawks offense a “ticking time bomb” because of how many ways they can pressure opposing defenses. It remains to be seen if that bomb goes off this week, as Walker and Metcalf missed practice while Fant and Lockett were limited, but Metcalf believes an explosion is about to happen in Seattle.
