Gators end fight against Illini Collegiate

CHICAGO – The Florida men’s golf team finished tied for ninth place in the second fall tournament at the Fighting Illini Collegiate at Olympia Fields Country Club on Sunday.

After the opening round on Friday, the tournament schedule was changed to play the remaining 36 holes straight through Saturday due to storms expected in the region. The final group of Arizona State, Georgia Tech and the Gators had two holes left to play, which were completed on Sunday morning.

Florida finished tied for 9th place with Florida State and Texas Tech with a team score of 850 (+10). Georgia Tech won the event with a 12 under par 828.

Parker Bell achieved the best result of his team with a 54-hole score of 1 under par 209 on place T14. He played all three rounds with par or better: 69-70-70. The junior achieved an average of 3.00 (E) on par 3 and 4.67 (-2) on par 5.

One stroke behind Bell was Ian Gilligan at T17 with an even par 210. He had two rounds under par with an opening round of 2 under par 68 and a closing round of 1 under par 69. Gilligan had marks of 2.82 (-2) on par 3s and 4.67 (-2) on par 5s. He finished tied for 3rd place in the field with 12 birdies.

The rest of the lineup consisted of Matthew Kress (T53) and Zack Swanwick (T55) followed by Rylan Shim (T60), who competed as a lone fighter.

Florida will compete in the Barbara Nicklaus Cup (October 7-8) at Muirfield Village Golf Club, which will feature stroke play and match play with the Gators' women's golf program.
