Kidnapping suspect arrested in Des Moines

The Metro Special Tactics and Response Tactical Unit was called Saturday to assist Des Moines Police Department detectives in the arrest of a kidnapping suspect. According to officials, officers were called to a fight in the 800 block of East Washington Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they were told that 33-year-old Troy Lee Mure Jr. of Des Moines had entered his ex-girlfriend's home armed with a handgun. Officers were told Mure struck the woman in the head and face with the handgun and then forced her to get into a vehicle and drive away. Officials say when officers spotted the vehicle nearby and approached, the victim jumped out of the car and Mure sped away. The victim sustained injuries including minor cuts, swelling and abrasions. Mure's unoccupied vehicle was later found in the 1300 block of East 12th Street. A DMPD sniffer dog was deployed to search for Mure, but he was not found. The Crimes Against Persons Unit was assigned to investigate. Later in the day, they learned Mure was at a home in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue. Police obtained warrants and called in the Metro STAR Tactical Unit to assist. Shortly before 5 p.m., teams arrived at the home and announced their presence over a loudspeaker and ordered Mure to surrender. Mure was arrested outside the home without incident, officials say. The handgun believed to have been used in the earlier attack was recovered by detectives. The case remains under investigation. Officers were told Mure struck the woman in the head and face with the handgun before forcibly forcing her into a vehicle and driving away.

Officials say when officers spotted the vehicle nearby and approached, the victim jumped out of the car and Mure sped away. The victim sustained injuries including minor cuts, swelling and abrasions.

Mure's unoccupied vehicle was later found in the 1300 block of East 12th Street. A DMPD sniffer dog was deployed to search for Mure, but he was not found.

The Crimes Against the Persons Unit was assigned to investigate and learned later that day that Mure was staying at an apartment in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue.

Police obtained arrest warrants and called in Metro STAR's tactical unit for assistance. Shortly before 5 p.m., teams arrived at the residence and announced their presence over a loudspeaker and ordered Mure to surrender.

Mure was arrested outside the home without incident, officials say. The gun believed to have been used during the earlier attack was recovered by detectives.

The case remains under investigation.

Mure was booked into the Polk County Jail on a number of charges:

  • Kidnapping – First Degree (Class A Felony)
  • Burglary – first degree (Class B felony)
  • Intentionally armed (Class D felony)
  • Felon in possession of a firearm (Class D felony)
  • Domestic violence, assault with a weapon (serious offense)
  • Bodily harm using a dangerous weapon (serious offence)
  • Obstruction of public activities (simple misdemeanor)
