Police report fatal motorcycle crash that closed I-95 on Sunday – First update from the state

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred this morning on I-95.

Officials said on September 22, 2024, at approximately 8:35 a.m., a Honda CBR 1000RR motorcycle was traveling southbound on I-95 north of Basin Road. The motorcycle, driven by a 26-year-old man from Douglasville, Pennsylvania, initially traveled behind a group of other motorcyclists. The driver accelerated to catch up with the group and eventually passed them at a high rate of speed, police said.

After the motorcycle passed the group, the rear tire locked and the motorcycle skidded. The motorcycle fell onto its right side and slid toward the right shoulder of the road. The rider, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until his family has been notified.

The road was closed for approximately five hours while the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the accident and cleared the road.
